Yoga Therapeutics Immersion: Functional Movement, Longevity & the Healing Wisdom of Yoga
with Doug Keller
This 12-hour immersion is designed for yoga teachers, dedicated practitioners, movement educators, bodyworkers, and health professionals who wish to deepen their understanding of yoga as a therapeutic and transformative practice. Suitable for both experienced teachers and students wanting to enrich their personal practice, this training offers practical tools for cultivating greater mobility, resilience, and long-term joint health.
The program explores contemporary approaches to functional movement, kinesiology, fascial health, and therapeutic yoga through the lens of traditional yoga wisdom. Participants will investigate how healthy movement patterns support longevity and how yoga can be adapted to meet the needs of students at every stage of life and practice—from beginners and older adults to experienced practitioners and advanced students.
A central focus of the immersion is understanding how the body moves as an integrated whole. Through intelligent sequencing and careful observation of movement patterns, participants will explore how mobility, stability, strength, and ease work together to create sustainable practice. Attention will be given to maintaining healthy joints, preserving range of motion, improving balance, and supporting graceful aging.
The training emphasizes the application of the Universal Principles of Alignment and dynamic biomechanical principles within yoga postures. Rather than approaching alignment as rigid or aesthetic, participants will learn how alignment creates spaciousness in the joints, supports efficient movement, and helps students practice safely according to their unique bodies and needs.
Through therapeutic asana practices, participants will examine the function of the feet, ankles, knees, hips, spine, shoulders, and neck, exploring how each region contributes to healthy movement and postural integrity. The immersion offers practical strategies for improving movement patterns in a variety of poses.
Special attention will be given to adapting yoga for common injuries and conditions, such as: low back pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, osteoarthritis, knee instability, hip restrictions, shoulder impingement, neck tension, sacroiliac dysfunction, osteoporosis, scoliosis, hypermobility, respiratory limitations, and stress-related conditions. Participants will learn how to modify postures, use props effectively, sequence therapeutically, and teach with greater sensitivity and precision.
Doug Keller is widely respected for his unique ability to bridge classical yoga teachings with modern therapeutic understanding. His teaching style combines deep knowledge of anatomy and movement science with decades of practical experience in yoga therapy. Rather than presenting formulas or rigid techniques, he guides students toward understanding underlying principles so they can think critically and respond skillfully to the diverse needs of individual practitioners.
Doug's approach is especially valued because of its clarity, accessibility, and compassion. He has an extraordinary ability to explain complex anatomical and energetic concepts in ways that are immediately useful for both teaching and personal practice. His teachings emphasize intelligent adaptation, sustainable movement, and the cultivation of practices that support health and well-being throughout all stages of life.
Participants will leave this immersion with practical tools to:
• Improve mobility, strength, balance, and joint function.
• Develop a deeper understanding of functional anatomy and kinesiology.
• Create safer and more effective sequences for a wide range of students.
• Adapt yoga practices for injuries, limitations, and special populations.
• Understand how breath, fascia, and movement influence pain patterns and overall vitality.
• Refine verbal cues, teaching skills, and therapeutic observation.
• Integrate alignment principles into teaching in ways that support freedom rather than rigidity.
• Cultivate practices that promote healthy aging and lifelong well-being.
This immersion is equally valuable for teachers seeking greater confidence in working with diverse student populations and for practitioners wishing to understand their own bodies more deeply. Participants often discover new ways of practicing that reduce unnecessary strain, improve movement efficiency, and create a greater sense of ease both on and off the mat.
Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a 12-Hour Yoga Immersion Certificate, which may be applied toward continuing education requirements and serves as recognition of advanced study in therapeutic yoga applications.
Whether your intention is to become a more skillful teacher, support students with greater sensitivity, recover from limitations, or simply develop a more intelligent and sustainable yoga practice, this immersion offers practical and transformative tools for cultivating health, resilience, and vitality for years to come.
